…NEW DEPRESSION FORMS OVER THE CENTRAL TROPICAL ATLANTIC…

At 5:00 am today, the center of newly formed Tropical Depression Ten (TD#10) was located near latitude 14.0 degrees north, longitude 49.9 degrees west or about 744 miles or 1197 kilometres east of Saint Lucia. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.  The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h and this motion is forecast to continue this morning and then move northward by this afternoon.  On the forecast track, the system is expected to remain over the open Atlantic well to the east of the Lesser Antilles.  Some slight strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today. 

Saharan dust will continue to cause a reduction in visibility and air quality across the Eastern Caribbean region, over the next couple of days.

There is a high chance of further development of the system into a tropical depression during the next couple of days before it moves into a less favorable environment.
