At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude 14.6 degrees north, longitude 47.9 degrees west or about 895 miles or 1440 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A steady northwest motion near 13 mph or 20 km/h is expected through the end of the week.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast and Teddy could become a hurricane tonight and near major hurricane strength within a few days. Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by Teddy are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles by late tomorrow.

…Tropical Storm Vicky…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 21.2 degrees north, longitude 32.1 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h).

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast and Vicky is expected to become a tropical depression on Wednesday, weaken into a remnant low by Wednesday night and dissipate by Friday. On its projected path Tropical Storm Vicky will pose no threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

A tropical wave located over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Environmental conditions are conducive for development and a Tropical Depression is likely to form during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast for the next several days, and Teddy is likely to become a hurricane late today and could reach major hurricane strength in a few days.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 20.3 degrees north, longitude 30.1 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the northwest. Gradual weakening is expected and Vicky is forecast to become a remnant low during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast for the next several days, and Teddy is expected to become a hurricane Tuesday and could reach major hurricane strength on Thursday.

Teddy is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue for the next two days followed by a turn to the northwest by mid-week. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected, and Teddy is forecast to become a hurricane in a couple of days.

A low pressure system located over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic, has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next day or so as it moves north-northwestward near 8 mph or 13 km/h. This system is forecast to become a short-lived Tropical Depression as it is expected to encounter unfavorable environmental conditions by Tuesday.

The Inter-Tropical Convergent Zone (ITCZ) will cause scattered showers and possibly thunderstorms, mainly over the central and southern portion of the Lesser Antilles, during the next 24 hours.

…Tropical Depression Twenty forms over the Central Atlantic…

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Twenty was located near latitude 12.2 degrees north, longitude 35.5 degrees west or about 1745 miles or 2805 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The system is forecast to become a tropical storm by Tuesday and a hurricane in the next few days.

Another area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is located over the Eastern Atlantic. Environmental conditions appear conducive for development during the next few days and a tropical depression could form next week, while the system moves slowly west-northwestward. 

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor and provide updates on the progress of these systems.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

The Inter-Tropical Convergent Zone (ITCZ) will cause a few scattered showers mainly over the central and southern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

An area of disturbed weather, located over the Central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. A tropical depression is expected to form within the next two days. There is also a high chance of this system developing into a tropical storm within the next five days.

Another area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is located over the Eastern Atlantic.  Environmental conditions appear conducive for development during the next few days, and a tropical depression could form next week while the system moves slowly westward.
