The atmosphere over the Eastern Caribbean region remains sufficiently moist and unstable to produce some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over parts of the region during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane Teddy

Teddy becomes a major (category 4) hurricane. At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Teddy was located near latitude 20.1 degrees north, longitude 54.1 degrees west or about 575 miles or 925 kilometers northeast of the Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 140 mph or 220 km/h with higher gusts.

Hurricane Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by this system will continue to affect the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles into the weekend.

…Post-Tropical Cyclone Vicky…

Vicky is now a remnant low. At 5:00 pm today, the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Vicky was located near latitude 21.1 degrees north, longitude 39.1 degrees west. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the west-southwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this general motion is expected through Friday.  Additional weakening is expected, and the remnant low is forecast to dissipate Friday night or early Saturday.

Vicky is not expected pose a threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

A tropical wave located near longitude 27 degrees west is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. An area of low pressure associated with this wave is in an environment conducive for development and a tropical depression is likely to form over the central tropical Atlantic during the next few days. The low is forecast to move west-northwestward at 10 to 15 kt during the next several days.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude 14.0 degrees north, longitude 47.0 degrees west or about 960 miles or 1545 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A steady northwest motion near 13 mph or 20 km/h is expected through the end of the week. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast for the next several days, and Teddy is likely to become a hurricane later today or tonight and could reach major hurricane strength in a few days.

…Tropical Storm Vicky…

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 20.6 degrees north, longitude 31.0 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h). Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected and Vicky is forecast to degenerate into a remnant low by Wednesday night. On its projected path Tropical Storm Vicky will pose no threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

A tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 10 mph or 17 km/h. Environmental conditions are conducive for development and a Tropical Depression is likely to form during the next few days.

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor and provide updates on the progress of these systems.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude 13.7 degrees north, longitude 46.0 degrees west or about 1030 miles or 1655 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and a west-northwest to northwest track is anticipated during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast for the next several days, and Teddy is likely to become a hurricane late today and could reach major hurricane strength in a few days.

…Tropical Storm Vicky…

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 20.3 degrees north, longitude 30.1 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the northwest. Gradual weakening is expected and Vicky is forecast to become a remnant low during the next day or two.

On its present projected path Tropical Storm Vicky poses no threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.

A tropical wave is located over the far eastern Atlantic moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. Environmental conditions appear to be conducive for further development during the next few days.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude

13.0 degrees north, longitude 44.0 degrees west or about 1170 miles or 1880

kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. A west-northwestward motion at a slower forward speed is expected tonight through Tuesday night, followed by a northwestward motion Wednesday and Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast for the next several days, and Teddy is expected to become a hurricane Tuesday and could reach major hurricane strength on Thursday.

…Tropical Storm Vicky is expected to weaken overnight…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Vicky was located near latitude 19.3 degrees north, longitude 29.5 degrees west. Vicky is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h and this motion is expected through early Tuesday, followed by a gradual turn toward the west by Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected and Vicky is forecast to become a remnant low during the next day or two.

A tropical wave is located over the far eastern Atlantic. Environmental conditions appear to be conducive for slow development as the system moves westward at 15 mph or 24 km/h.
