Ian is moving toward the west at 16 mph or 26 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Significant strengthening is forecast during the next few days and Ian is expected to become a hurricane by late Sunday and a major hurricane by late Monday. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Cayman Islands. The tropical storm watch was discontinued for Jamaica.

A broad area of low pressure located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.

Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Jamaica.

A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure, located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.

Tropical Depression ten becomes Tropical Storm Hermine. At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Hermine was located near latitude 18.6 north, longitude 20.5 west. Hermine is moving toward the north-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to remain over the far eastern Atlantic and does not pose a threat to our region.

Tropical Depression ten forms over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 17.9 north, longitude 19.8 west. The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h, and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is forecast this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The depression could become a tropical storm during the next day or so, before weakening over the weekend.

13 mph or 20 km/h. A turn more westward is forecast over the next day or so followed by a turn back to the west-northwest and northwest by this weekend.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Only slow intensification is forecast over the next day or so, followed by more significant intensification over the weekend and early next week.

A strong tropical wave will continue to produce cloudiness, moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the Windward Islands and areas further south during the next 24 hours. This system has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation and is likely to become a tropical depression within the next two days.  

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 25.6 North, longitude 71.5 West. Fiona is moving toward the north near 9 mph or 15 km/h away from the Eastern Caribbean and does not pose a threat to our region.   

A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving slowly westward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.

A third tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa tomorrow. Some development of this wave is expected while it moves slowly westward over the eastern tropical Atlantic during the next five days.
