Adverse weather conditions associated with Tropical Storm Fiona, will continue to affect the Eastern Caribbean region during the next 24 hours. Hurricane Warnings are in effect for Puerto Rico, the U.S and British Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 17.1 North, longitude 65.8 West or 80 miles or 125 kilometres west-southwest of St Croix. Fiona is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. A northwestward motion is expected to begin later today and continue through Monday, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest on Tuesday. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona will approach Puerto Rico this morning. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Some trengthening is forecast, and Fiona is expected to become a hurricane before reaching the southern coast of Puerto Rico later today.

On this forecast track, the center of Fiona will move south of the Virgin Islands this evening, and move across Puerto Rico by Sunday afternoon. Fiona is moving toward the west near 8 mph or 13 km/h, a westward to west-northwestward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected through Sunday night. Moist and instability associated with the leading edge of the recently upgraded Tropical cyclone Fiona will produce an increase in cloudiness and showers with possible isolated thunderstorms across the northern and central Eastern Caribbean region during the forecast period.

At 9:00 pm last night, Tropical Depression Seven strengthened into the 6^th Tropical storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season, Tropical Storm Fiona.  At 5:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Fiona was located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 53.0 West. Fiona is moving toward the west near 13 mph or 20 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of the storm is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday and Friday night, and be near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend.  Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) east of the center.

Tropical storm watch is in effect for the islands from Monserrat and islands further north.

A tropical wave located over the central and far eastern tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/ and 6 mph or 9 km/h.

Over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands, it will be partly cloudy becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Elsewhere, fair to partly cloudy skies with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions over the northern portion of the region, will result in occasionally cloudy skies, with some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over that area during the forecast period.

Tropical Depression Seven formed in the central Tropical Atlantic at 11:00 am today. At 5 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression Seven was located near latitude 16.8 North, longitude 50.5 West or 745 miles or 1200 km east of the Leeward Islands. The depression is moving toward the west near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next few days.  On the forecast track, the center of the system is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday, and be near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Some gradual strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and the depression is forecast to become a tropical storm tonight or Thursday.

A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.
