Weak unstable conditions ahead of an approaching tropical wave will cause a few scattered showers across the Eastern Caribbean islands today.

This tropical wave located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles, is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h and is expected to affect the region from late tonight into Friday.

A second tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is also moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h and is expected to reach the Lesser Antilles late Saturday. There is a medium or 60 percent chance of further development of this system over the next five days. Interests in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system.

At 5:00 am today, Tropical Depression Fred was located just east of Cuba and is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h. This system is expected to reach near Florida on Saturday and poses no threat to Saint Lucia and the rest of the Lesser Antilles.

Potential Tropical Cyclone number six (#6) is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move north of Saint Lucia and through a portion of the southern Leeward Islands tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and the disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm tonight.

A second low pressure system is located about 940 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Development of this system is becoming less likely during the next few days while it moves toward the west or west-southwest at about 10 mph or 17 km/h.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is also
moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
