Moist and unstable conditions will cause a few cloudy periods, showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms across parts of the Lesser Antilles, during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Nine was located near latitude 14.2 north, longitude 70.1 west, or about 515 miles or 830 kilometres east-southeast of Jamaica. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight.

Tropical Depression ten forms over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 17.9 north, longitude 19.8 west. The depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h, and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is forecast this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The depression could become a tropical storm during the next day or so, before weakening over the weekend.

A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure, located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next 48 hours.

Tropical Depression Nine forms over the central Caribbean Sea. At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Nine was located near latitude 13.9 North, longitude 68.6 West. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near
13 mph or 20 km/h. A turn more westward is forecast over the next day or so followed by a turn back to the west-northwest and northwest by this weekend.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Only slow intensification is forecast over the next day or so, followed by more significant intensification over the weekend and early next week.

Moist and unstable conditions trailing Tropical Depression Nine, will affect the southern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure, located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving slowly westward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next 48 hours.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
A strong tropical wave located just to the east of the Windward Islands has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation. This system is likely to become a tropical depression within the next two or three days. This wave is expected to cause cloudiness, moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the southern portion of our region from later today into tomorrow.

Fiona becomes a category 4 hurricane while moving away from the Turks and Caicos Islands. At 2:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 23.4 North, longitude 71.8 West or 105 miles or 170 kilometres north of North Caicos Island.

At 3:00 am today, Tropical Storm Gaston was located near latitude 36.2 North longitude 43.6 West or about 920 miles or 1485 kilometres west of the Azores.
Tropical Storm Gaston does not pose a direct threat to Saint Lucia and the Lesser Antilles.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK 

Unstable conditions in the wake of a tropical wave will continue to affect the southern half of the Lesser Antilles tonight. Meanwhile, another strong tropical wave located a few hundred miles east of the Windward Islands has a medium chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next two days. This wave is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h and is expected to cause cloudiness, moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms over the southern portion of our region from tomorrow into Thursday.

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of major Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 22.6 North, longitude 71.8 West or 50 miles or 80 kilometres north of North Caicos Island. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Turks and Caicos Islands and a tropical storm warning is in effect for Bermuda.

Tropical Depression eight was upgraded to Tropical Storm Gaston at 5:00 pm today and at that time was located near latitude 34.7 North 44.4 West or about 990 miles or 1595 kilo metres west of the Azors.

FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Fair to partly cloudy with a few showers over the Leeward Islands. Further south, partly cloudy becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK 

A weak tropical wave will continue to affect mainly the southern half of the Lesser Antilles during the next 12 to 18 hours.

Another strong tropical wave located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands has a medium chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next two days. This wave is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h and is expected to cause cloudiness, moderate to heavy showers, gusty winds and thunderstorms mainly over the southern portion of our region from tomorrow morning into Thursday.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of major Hurricane Fiona was located near latitude 22.0 North, longitude 71.4 West or 40 miles or 65 kilometres north-northwest of Grand Turk Island. A hurricane warning is in effect for the Turks and Caicos Islands and a tropical storm warning is in effect for the southeastern Bahamas.
