TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Beryl was located

near latitude 12.4 North, longitude 61.3 west or about 112 miles 181 km south of St Lucia. Beryl is moving toward the west-northwest near 20 mph (31 km/h). The eyewall of Beryl is moving across the southern Windward Islands. Maximum sustained winds are near 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher gusts. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Winds will rapidly increase within the eyewall of Beryl.

Showers and thunderstorms continue in association with an area of low pressure located about 1000 miles 1600 km east-southeast of the Windward Islands.  Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for additional development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by the middle part of this week while it moves generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western tropical Atlantic.

Beryl is moving quickly toward the west near 20 mph (31 km/h). A quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl is expected to move across the Windward Islands this morning and across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea late today through Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph (195 km/h), with higher gusts.

At 5:00 PM today, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 11.1 North, longitude 56.5 West or about 363 miles or 585 Kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia.  Beryl is moving quickly toward the west near 18 mph (30 km/h).  A continued quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl is expected to move across the Windward Islands Monday morning and across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea late Monday through Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts.

At 5:00 AM today, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 53.1 West or about 579 miles or 932 Kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia.  Beryl is moving quickly toward the west near 21 mph (33 km/h). A continued quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the nextfew days. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl is expected to move across the Windward Islands early on Monday and across the southeastern Caribbean Sea on Monday night and Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts.  Over the next day or so, rapid strengthening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become an extremely dangerous hurricane before it reaches the Windward Islands.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 10.1 degrees north, longitude 49.3 degrees west or about 834 miles or 1343 kilometres southeast of Saint Lucia. Beryl is moving toward the west near 22 mph or 35 km/h. A relatively quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move across the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph or 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane before it reaches the Windward Islands. Hazardous swells generated by the system are expected to reach the Windward and southern Leeward Islands by late Sunday.

FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy to cloudy, with scattered light to moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms over the central Windward Islands and areas further south. Elsewhere, fair to occasionally cloudy, with widely scattered showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A tropical wave will continue to affect mainly the southern half of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

Tropical Depression Two has been upgraded to a tropical storm.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Beryl was located near latitude 9.8 degrees north, longitude 45.5 degrees west or about 1086 miles or 1748 kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia. Beryl is moving toward the west near 21 mph or 33 km/h. A relatively quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move across the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional steady to rapid strengthening is expected during the next couple of days, and Beryl is expected to become a hurricane tonight or Sunday. Hazardous swells generated by the system are expected to reach the Windward and southern Leeward Islands by late Sunday.

A hurricane watch has been issued for Barbados and additional watches and warnings will likely be required for Saint Lucia and portions of the Windward Islands later today.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave has a medium chance of development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week. 

Interests in the Windward and southern Leeward Islands are advised to closely monitor the progress of these systems and take the necessary precautions.

A tropical wave located just east of the Lesser Antilles, is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.  This wave is expected to cause an increase in cloudiness and showers, with isolated thunderstorms over the region from tonight.

Tropical Disturbance becomes Tropical Depression #2

At 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Two was

located near latitude 9.1 North, longitude 41.9 West. The depression

is moving toward the west near 17 mph (28 km/h). A relatively quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the next few days. On the forecast track, the system is expected to move across the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or early Saturday and a hurricane in a couple of days.

Another tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a low chance of development during the next seven (7) days.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Patches of low-level clouds drifting along a moderate easterly wind flow, will cause occasional showery periods over the region, during the afternoon.

A tropical wave located a few hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles, is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.  This wave is expected to cause an increase in cloudiness and showers, with isolated thunderstorms over the region from tonight.

A second tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is gradually becoming better defined, with showers and thunderstorms showing signs of organization. Environmental conditions are conducive for further development of this system and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form later today or on Saturday, while the system moves westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This system is expected to impact our region from Monday.

A third tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a low chance of development during the next seven (7) days.
