TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability in the lower atmosphere over the Eastern Caribbean region will continue to cause some showery periods and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the islands during the next 24 hours.

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Sebastien was located near latitude 23.0 North, longitude 61.2 West, or about 355 miles or 570 kilometres north-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sebastien is moving toward the north-northeast near 8 mph or 13 km/h. A faster northeastward motion is expected during the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph or 95 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and Sebastien could become a hurricane tonight or Friday before weakening this weekend.

Sebastien is forecast to remain over the open Atlantic Ocean and is not expected to pose a direct threat to our region.

A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
