FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy and hazy, occasionally becoming cloudy with some scattered showers over the central Windward Islands and areas further south. Elsewhere, partly cloudy and hazy with a few brief showers.

WEATHER SUMMARY

A weak tropical wave moving westward near 23 mph or 37 km/h, will cause occasional cloudiness with some scattered showers over the southern portion of the region during the next 24 hours. An upper level jet stream over the northern portion of the region, will cause partly cloudy conditions with a few showers over that area during the forecast period. 

The Atlantic High Pressure System will continue to generate moderate to brisk easterly winds and above normal seas around the Eastern Caribbean during the next couple of days.

Saharan dust haze will continue to cause a reduction in visibility and air quality across our region during the next few days.

The alert level at the La Soufriere volcano in Saint Vincent remains at Orange due to reduced activity over the past few weeks. However, interests in Saint Lucia and the south-eastern Caribbean region are advised to continue monitoring official sources for updates.

…For information… The first cyclone for the year 2021 formed over the north Atlantic today. Subtropical Storm Ana formed about 200 miles or 320 kilometres northeast of Bermuda and is expected to remain over the open ocean and dissipate by Monday. Elsewhere, tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.
