Fair skies, becoming cloudy at times with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms mainly over the southern Lesser Antilles.
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moist and unstable conditions associated with an approaching, weak low level trough will cause a few cloudy periods with showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Lesser Antilles, during the next 24 hours.
At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Tropical Depression Nine was located near latitude 14.7 north, longitude 71.3 west, or about 430 miles or 690 kilometres east-southeast of Jamaica. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Jamaica.
A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure, located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northwestward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
Tropical Depression ten becomes Tropical Storm Hermine. At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Hermine was located near latitude 18.6 north, longitude 20.5 west. Hermine is moving toward the north-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to remain over the far eastern Atlantic and does not pose a threat to our region.
