Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe, will cause a few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern half of the region during the forecast period.
At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 16.9 degrees North, longitude 56.3 degrees West or about 455 miles or 735 kilometers east of the northern Leeward Islands. Philippe is moving toward the south-southwest near 5 mph or 7 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast and Philippe could
become a hurricane by early next week. Interests in the Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.
At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Rina was located near latitude 21.2 degrees North, longitude 50.4 degrees West. Rina is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h.
