FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Generally cloudy with scattered showers, some of which may be heavy with gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms over the central Windward Islands and areas further north.  Elsewhere, partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe, will continue to cause scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 17.1 degrees North, longitude 60.7 degrees West or about 80 miles or 130 kilometers east-southeast of Barbuda. Philippe is moving toward the west-northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. On the forecast track, the center of Philippe is expected to pass near or just northeast of the northern Leeward Islands tonight.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Barbuda and a tropical storm watch is in effect for Antigua. Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

 

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 8 mph or 13 km/h.
