TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moist and unstable conditions over the region will continue to cause some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the islands, during the next 24 hours.

An area of low pressure located less than one hundred miles east of the northern Leeward Islands has degenerated into a surface trough.  This system continues to drift west-northwestward near 15 mph or 24 km/h and has a low chance of tropical cyclone development during the next seven days.  Cloudiness, locally heavy showers and gusty winds are still a possibility over the extreme northern portion of the region, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, Tropical Depression Seven was located near latitude 19.0 north, longitude 38.2 west. The depression is moving towards the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The depression could become a tropical storm later today, however, little change in strength is anticipated through the weekend.  This system poses no threat to our region at this time.
