Franklin is expected to continue moving slowly on a westward track near 5 mph or 7 km/h. A sharp turn to the north is expected on Tuesday with this general motion continuing into Wednesday. On the forecast track, the centre of Franklin is forecast to reach the southern coast of Hispaniola by early on Wednesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Gert is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h and is forecast to dissipate within the next day or so. Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Gert is expected to affect mainly the northern half of the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

Franklin slowing down over the Caribbean Sea

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Franklin was located near latitude 15.0 North, Longitude 70.1 West. Franklin is expected to continue moving on a westward track near 6 mph or 9 km/h,today. At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Emily was located near latitude 20.7 North, longitude 41.1 West. Emily is moving toward the west northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h and a west-northwest to northwest motion is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Further weakening is forecast and Emily could become a post-tropical cyclone by this evening.
