A tropical wave located a few hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles is expected to cause a few cloudy periods with showers over the islands tomorrow.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward at about 12 mph or 19 km/h.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 26.6 north, longitude 63.3 west or about 405 miles or 650 kilometres south-southeast of Bermuda. Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 14 mph or 22 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph or 75 km/h.  Karen is expected to weaken by the weekend, and Karen to become a remnant low by Sunday.

...LORENZO BECOMES A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE...
At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 15.4 north, longitude 40.2 west or about 1400 miles or 2250 kilometres east of the Lesser Antilles. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Lorenzo is forecast to turn toward the northwest later today and this motion is expected to continue through Friday. A turn toward the north is expected Friday night and Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 130 mph or 215 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is possible today, and changes in intensity are expected over the next day or two.

Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean, well east of the Lesser Antilles during the next five days.

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 25.5 north, longitude 63.5 west or about 520 miles or 835 kilometres north-northeast of San Juan Puerto Rico. Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 15 mph or 24 km/h.  

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days. Karen is expected to remain over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during the next few days.

...LORENZO TO TURN NORTHWESTWARD AND STRENGTHEN TODAY...
At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 15.1 north, longitude 39.3 west. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Lorenzo is forecast to turn toward the northwest and begin moving at a slightly slower speed later today. A turn toward the north is then
anticipated on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph or 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast and Lorenzo is forecast to become a major hurricane later today or early on Friday.

Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.

Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph or 30 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.  A turn toward the northwest is expected by Thursday night.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph or 150 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Lorenzo is expected to become a major hurricane on Thursday. This system is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 18.0 north, longitude 65.8 west or about 35 miles or 55 kilometers southeast of San Juan Puerto Rico.

Karen is moving toward the north near 8 mph or 13 km/h, a turn toward the north-northeast with some increase in forward speed is forecast tonight. This motion is expected to continue through Wednesday night.  On the forecast track, the center of Karen will pass near or over Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands during the next few hours and then move over the western Atlantic tonight and Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for Puerto Rico as well as the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Interests elsewhere in the Northern Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of Karen.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Lorenzo was located near latitude 12.8 north, longitude 31.0 west. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 17 mph or 28 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through early Thursday.  A slower motion toward the northwest is forecast Thursday night and Friday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Lorenzo is expected to become a hurricane tonight or on Wednesday. This system is expected to remain over the open Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.

Karen is moving toward the north near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue today.  A north-northeastward motion with some increase in forward speed is forecast tonight through Wednesday night.  On the forecast track, the center of Karen will pass near or over Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands this afternoon and then move over the western Atlantic tonight and Wednesday.

Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through early Thursday.  A northwestward motion should begin on Thursday and continue into Friday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next several days, and Lorenzo is expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday, and a major hurricane on Thursday.

This system is expected to remain over the open Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.

…LORENZO FORECAST TO BECOME A LARGE AND POWERFUL HURRICANE…

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Lorenzo was located near latitude 12.0 north, longitude 28.0 west and is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h. This general motion with some decrease in forward speed is expected for the next couple of days, followed by a northwest turn on Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Lorenzo is forecast to become a hurricane later today and a major hurricane on Thursday. This system is expected to remain over the open Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.
