TROPICAL STORM JERRY HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A HURRICANE…

At 11:00 am today, the eye of Hurricane Jerry was located near latitude 16.8 North, longitude 54.4 West or about 490 miles or 785 kilometers east of the Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue today. On this track the eye of Jerry will be near the northern Leeward Islands tomorrow and pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for the northern Leeward Islands from Barbuda northward to St. Eustatius.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph or 120 km/h, with higher gusts. Jerry is forecast to strengthen during the next day, before some weakening begins this weekend.

Interests around the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of Jerry. Hurricane Jerry pose no threat to Saint Lucia at this time.

A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic has a low potential for development during the next few days. This wave is being closely monitored as it moves westward towards the Eastern Caribbean at 17 mph or 28 km/h.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 53.2 West or about 575 miles or 925 kilometers east of the Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the center of Jerry will be near the northern Leeward Islands tomorrow and pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the center of Jerry will be near the northern Leeward Islands Friday and pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Jerry is forecast to become a hurricane on Thursday, with little change in strength anticipated on Friday and Saturday.

Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Jerry.  Further watches could be issued this evening or overnight.

Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the system will be near the northern Leeward Islands Friday and pass north of Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Jerry is forecast to become a hurricane by late Thursday, with little change in strength anticipated on Friday and Saturday.

Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

the Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. A west-northwest motion at a slightly faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this track the system will be near the Northern Leeward Islands Thursday night or Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Further strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Jerry is expected to become a hurricane by the time it moves near the Northern Leeward Islands.

Interests in the Northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

An area of low pressure is expected to develop this weekend to the east of the Windward Islands. Some gradual development of this system is possible as it moves west-northwestward over the islands and across the Eastern Caribbean.

 At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 13.4 North, longitude 45.6 West or about 1110 miles or 1785 kilometers

East of the leeward islands. The depression is moving toward the west northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. This motion, with a faster forward speed is expected over the next few days. On this tract, the system will be near the northern leeward islands Thursday night or Friday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and this depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight. The system is forecast to become a hurricane by the time it moves near the northern leeward islands.

Lingering moisture and instability in the wake of a tropical wave together with the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms mainly over the southern portion of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours. 

The low pressure centre associated with the tropical wave located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles has become better organized and is now Tropical Depression Ten. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Ten was located near latitude 12.9 North, longitude 44.9 West. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h and will approach the northern Leeward Islands by Thursday night or Friday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today.  Interests in the Northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

However, environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for the formation of a tropical depression during the next day or two while the system moves slowly northwestward to west-northwestward.

A third tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving
westward near 23 mph or 37 km/h.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A tropical wave will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms

over the eastern Caribbean region during the next 24 hours.

A second tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave is being closely monitored for development and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next two

to three days while it moves slowly northwestward to west northwestward.

A third tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving

westward near 20 mph or 31 km/h.
