TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
A tropical wave will continue to cause occasional cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Eastern Caribbean region during the next 24 hours.
..TROPICAL DEPRESSION THIRTEEN EXPECTED TO BECOME A TROPICAL STORM LATER TODAY..
At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Thirteen was located near latitude 16.0 North, longitude 52.0 West or about 750 miles or 1205 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 21 mph or 33 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days. On the forecast track, the depression is expected to move near or north of the northern Leeward Islands by late Friday and near or north of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today.
Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for most of the Leeward Islands.
Interests elsewhere in the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should closely monitor the progress of this system, as additional tropical storm watches or warnings will be required for portions of those areas later today.
Tropical Depression Thirteen does not pose a direct threat to Saint Lucia and the rest of the Windward Islands, however the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the progress of the system.
Another tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h.
A third tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is also moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a medium chance of tropical cyclone development during the next five days.
