TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
A tropical wave located just to the east of the Lesser Antilles is expected to cause an increase in cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms over the region during the forecast period.
The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to produce cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the extreme southern portion of the region during the next 24 hours.
…TROPICAL DEPRESSION FORMS OVER THE CENTRAL TROPICAL ATLANTIC…
At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Thirteen was located near latitude 15.2 North, longitude 49.8 West or about 905 miles or 1455 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 21 mph or 33 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days. On the forecast track, the depression is expected to move near or north of the northern Leeward Islands by late Friday and near or north of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm by later today.
Interests in the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of this system. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
