FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Cloudy to overcast with showers and thunderstorms over the Leeward Islands. Elsewhere, occasionally cloudy with some scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability trailing Tropical Storm Laura will continue to cause some cloudy periods, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles.

…TROPICAL STORM LAURA…

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Laura was located near latitude 17.8 North, longitude 66.8 West or about 30 miles or 48 kilometres southwest of San Juan Puerto Rico. Laura is moving toward the west near 18 mph or 30 km/h.  On the forecast track, the centre of Laura will move near or over Hispaniola this afternoon and tonight and near or over eastern Cuba by Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next few days.

Tropical storm Laura does not pose a direct threat to Saint Lucia and the rest of the Windward Islands, however moisture and instability generated by this system will continue to affect these areas during the forecast period.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave has a low chance of further development during the next five days.
