Partly cloudy to cloudy at times with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, fair to partly cloudy and hazy, with a few showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
An increase in moisture and instability in the atmosphere over the Eastern Caribbean region, will cause some showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands during the next 24 hours.
…Hurricane Teddy…
Teddy becomes a major (category 3) hurricane. At 11:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Teddy was located near latitude 19.3 degrees north, longitude 53.0 degrees west or about 610 miles or 980 kilometers east-northeast of Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph or 20 km/h and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph or 195 km/h with higher gusts. Hurricane Teddy does not pose a direct threat to our region, however swells generated by this system will continue to affect the northern portion of Lesser Antilles into the weekend.
…Tropical Depression Vicky…
Vicky weakens to a tropical depression over the central tropical Atlantic. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Vicky was located near latitude 21.4 degrees north, longitude 38.2 degrees west. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Vicky is moving toward the west near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Additional weakening is forecast and Vicky is expected to become a remnant low later today and dissipate Friday night or early Saturday. Tropical Depression Vicky is not expected pose a threat to the Eastern Caribbean region.
A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Environmental conditions are conducive for development and a tropical depression is likely to form over the central tropical Atlantic during the next few days.
