Tropical Depression Ten Strengthens into Tropical Storm Kate.
At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Kate was located near latitude 21.5 degrees north, longitude 50.9 degrees west or about 770 miles or 1245 kilometers east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. Kate is moving toward the north near 8 mph or 13 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Kate pose no threat to the Eastern Caribbean region at this time.
Two tropical waves located over the central and eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
A third tropical wave near the west coast of Africa, is expected to move over the eastern Tropical Atlantic later today. This system has a high or 80 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
