Unstable conditions caused by Hurricane Erin are expected to cause cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms mainly over the Leeward Islands, during the next 24 hours.
…ERIN RAPIDLY STRENGTHENING, OUTER RAINBANDS AFFECTING THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS…
At 11:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Erin was located near latitude 19.7 North, longitude 62.8 West or about 411 miles (662 km) north of St. Lucia. Erin is moving toward the west near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This motion is expected to continue through the weekend. On the forecast track, the center of Erin is likely to move just north of the northern Leeward Islands over the weekend. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 mph or 250 km/h, with higher gusts. Erin is now a category 4 hurricane. Continued rapid strengthening is expected and Erin is forecast to become a Category 5 hurricane. Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Erin.

Two tropical waves located over the eastern and far eastern Tropical Atlantic, are moving westward near 15 and 9 mph or 24 and 15 km/h, respectively.
