Occasionally cloudy skies, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Feeder bands associated with Major Hurricane Humberto will cause occasionally cloudy skies and scattered showers over Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Meanwhile, a weak tropical wave will enhance shower activity over the southern portion of the region, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine was located near latitude 21.9 North, longitude 75.8 West or about 155 miles or 250 km northwest of eastern Cuba. The system is moving toward the northwest near 7 mph or 11 km/h.  On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to move across the central and northwestern Bahamas this weekend and approach the southeast U.S. coast early next week. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. The system is expected to become a tropical depression by tonight, a tropical storm by early Sunday, and a hurricane by late Monday. This system is not expected to affect the Lesser Antilles.

…HUMBERTO EXPECTED TO REMAIN A POWERFUL MAJOR HURRICANE THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK…

At 5:00 am today, the eye of Hurricane Humberto was located near Latitude 22.3 degrees north, longitude 59.3 degrees west or about 535 miles or 991 kilometres north of Saint Lucia. Humberto is moving toward the west near 6 mph or 9 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 145 mph or 230 km/h with higher gusts.  Humberto is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Additional strengthening is forecast through the weekend.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
