…Tropical Depression Fifteen formed in the central Atlantic…
At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Fifteen was located near latitude 14.4 north, longitude 43.8 west. The system is moving towards the northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today and could become a hurricane late this weekend.
On the forecast track the system is expected to pass well northeast of the Lesser Antilles and does not pose a direct threat to our region. However, interest in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.
