FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with some scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, fair to occasionally cloudy skies, with a few brief showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Light and variable winds will continue across the Lesser Antilles over the next few days.

Unstable conditions associated with a trough system, will continue to cause some showers and possibly thunderstorms to develop mainly over the northern portion of the region, during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Nigel was located near latitude 24.0 north, longitude 49.1 west or about 990 miles or 1595 kilometers northeast of the Lesser Antilles. Nigel is moving towards the north-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Nigel is expected to become a hurricane on Monday. Nigel poses no direct threat to our region.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
