Partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy, with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. Further south, fair to partly cloudy with a few brief showers.
Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe, will cause a few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern half of the region during the forecast period.
At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 16.3 degrees North, longitude 56.5 degrees West or about 455 miles or 730 kilometers east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Philippe is moving toward the southwest near 5 mph or 7 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast and Philippe could become a hurricane by early next week. Interests in the Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.
At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Rina was located near latitude 22.6 degrees North, longitude 51.5 degrees West. Rina is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. This system is not expected to pose a threat to our region.
