Weak unstable conditions will continue to cause some showers and possibly thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles tonight. The Atlantic High-Pressure System will become the dominant weather feature across the region and as a result, generally more stable weather conditions are expected from tomorrow.
A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave is expected to affect the region by Tuesday.
Another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Gradual development of this wave is possible during the middle to latter portion of the week.
At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Erin was located near latitude 21.7 North, longitude 68.5 West or about 275 miles or 445 km northwest of Puerto Rico. Erin is moving toward the west-northwest and further away from our region near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph or 205 km/h, with higher gusts.
