FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the Windward Islands, fair to partly cloudy skies, with a few brief showers at first, becoming increasingly cloudy with gusty winds and light to moderate showers late tonight into tomorrow. Elsewhere, fair to occasionally cloudy, with widely scattered showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

BERYL CONTINUING TO RAPIDLY INTENSIFY.

FORECAST TO BRING LIFE-THREATENING WINDS AND STORM SURGE TO THE

WINDWARD ISLANDS AS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE. At 5:00 AM today, the center of Hurricane Beryl was located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 53.1 West or about 579 miles or 932 Kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia.  Beryl is moving quickly toward the west near 21 mph (33 km/h). A continued quick westward to west-northwestward motion is expected during the nextfew days. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl is expected to move across the Windward Islands early on Monday and across the southeastern Caribbean Sea on Monday night and Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts.  Over the next day or so, rapid strengthening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become an extremely dangerous hurricane before it reaches the Windward Islands.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Barbados, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Martinique and Tobago. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Dominica.

Another tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a high chance of development over the next seven (7) days, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week. 

Interests in the Windward and southern Leeward Islands are advised to closely monitor the progress of these systems and take the necessary precautions.
