FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Over the Leeward Islands, mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.  Elsewhere, partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A surface trough is over the Leeward Islands.  This trough is drifting west-northwestward near 15 mph or 24 km/h and has a low chance of tropical cyclone development during the next seven days.  Increased periods of cloudiness, locally heavy showers and gusty winds are expected over the extreme northern portion of the region, during the forecast period.

Further south, the atmosphere is very moist and unstable. A few of cloudiness with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms can be expected across those islands during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, Tropical Depression Seven was upgraded to Tropical storm Gordon. Gordon is located near latitude 19.4 north, longitude 38.6 west and is moving towards the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. Slight strengthening is expected today before a weakening trend begins on Saturday.  This system poses no threat to our region at this time.
