…DISTURBANCE BECOMES A TROPICAL DEPRESSION…
At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression Nine was located near latitude 22.0 North, longitude 76.2 West or about 180 miles or 290 km northwest of the eastern tip of Cuba. The system is moving toward the northwest near 6 mph or 9 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The system is expected to become a tropical storm by tonight and a hurricane by late Monday or Tuesday. This system is not expected to affect the Lesser Antilles.
…HUMBERTO EXPECTED TO REMAIN A POWERFUL MAJOR HURRICANE THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK…
At 11:00 am today, the eye of Hurricane Humberto was located near Latitude 22.7 degrees north, longitude 60.2 degrees west or about 639 miles or 1028 kilometres north of Saint Lucia. Humberto is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 145 mph or 230 km/h, with higher gusts. Humberto is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional strengthening is forecast through the weekend.
A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.
