Sam is moving toward the west near 16 mph or 26 km/h and this motion is expected to continue over the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts. Further strengthening is forecast over the next few days and Sam is expected to become a hurricane by tomorrow and a major hurricane by the weekend.
