TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A relatively drier and more stable atmosphere is expected over the northern and central eastern Caribbean region as the Atlantic High pressure system ridge pattern extends south westward over the islands.  Further south, the Inter Tropical Convergent Zone (ITCZ) will continue to produce occasionally cloudy skies with scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the far southern islands.

A tropical wave located about 650 miles or 1046 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles is moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave is expected to affect the region from tomorrow.

A broad area of low pressure located about 930 miles or 1497 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles, continues to produce a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions remain favorable for development, and a tropical depression is expected to form during the next day or two while the system moves generally west-northwestward at about 17 mph or 28 km/h. This system is expected to reach our region by late Friday or early Saturday and interests in the Lesser Antilles should closely monitor the progress of this disturbance.

Another tropical wave located over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 20 mph or 31 km/h.

A tropical wave located about 650 miles or 1046 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles is moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave is expected to affect the region tomorrow.

A strong tropical wave associated with a broad area of low pressure, located about 1300 miles or 2092 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles, is producing a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions remain favorable for development and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next few days, while the system moves west-northwestward at about 17 mph or 28 km/h. This system is expected to reach our region by late Friday or early Saturday.

Interests in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system.

Another tropical wave located over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h.

Trailing moisture and instability of a tropical wave moving away from Lesser Antilles will continue generate frequent cloudy periods, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central and southern portion of the region during the next 24 hours.

Another strong tropical wave associated with a broad area of low pressure, is located over the Central Tropical Atlantic and is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.  The system is being monitored for possible cyclone development and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next day or two.  This system may approach the vicinity of the Leeward Islands by late Friday or early Saturday.

A third tropical wave located over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 17 mph or 28 km/h.

A third tropical wave located over the far eastern Atlantic is moving westward at 15 mph or 24 km/h. Some development of this wave is possible by the middle to latter part of this week, as environment conditions become more conducive.

At 5:00 pm today, the remnants of Josephine were located near latitude 20.9 north, longitude 65.8 west or about 255 miles or 410 kilometres northwest of the northern Leeward Islands. The remnants are moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through today.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A fast moving tropical wave is expected to cause an increase in cloudiness and shower activity over the islands during the next 24 hours. This wave has a low chance of development once it reaches the Caribbean sea.

A second tropical wave located over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.

A third tropical wave located just west of the coast of Africa is moving westward at 15 mph or 24 km/h. Some development of this wave is possible by the middle to latter part of the week as environment conditions become more conducive while the system is over the Central Tropical Atlantic.

…Josephine loses organization as it passes to the north of the Virgin Islands….

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Depression Josephine was located near latitude 20.4 north, longitude 65.0 west or about 195 miles or 315 kilometres northwest of the northern Leeward Islands. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast and Josephine is expected to become a remnant low or dissipate by Monday.

The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through today. 

Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.
