At 5:00 am today the centre of Tropical Storm Elsa was located near latitude 9.4 degrees north, longitude 48.8 degrees west or about 865 miles or 1390 kilometres east-southeast of Saint Lucia.
Maximum
sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph or 65 km/h. Some strengthening is forecast during the
next 24 hours. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles or 165
kilometres from the centre. The system is expected to produce tropical storm
winds up to near 60 mph or 96 km/h and rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches or 76
to 152 mm with maximum totals of 8 inches or 203 mm across the Windward Islands
and Barbados on Friday.
Tropical Storm
Elsa is moving towards the west near 25 mph or 41 km/h. An even faster motion
to the west-northwest is expected over the next 24 to 36 hours. On the forecast
track, the system will pass near Saint Lucia or over the Windward Islands on
Friday and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night.
