...LORENZO TURNS NORTHWARD, STILL AS A MAJOR HURRICANE...

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 22.5 

North, longitude 44.8 West. Lorenzo is moving toward the north near 10 mph or 17 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through Sunday morning. A turn to the north northeast is forecast on Sunday, followed by a faster motion toward the northeast beginning Monday or Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 115 mph or 185 km/h with higher gusts.  

Lorenzo is a category 3 hurricane. Only very gradual weakening is expected during the next few days but Lorenzo is expected to remain a powerful hurricane when it turns northeastward towards the Azores.

Lorenzo is a large hurricane.  Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 50 

miles or 85 km from the centre. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up

to 275 miles or 445 km. Heavy sea swells generated by Lorenzo will affect the 

Eastern Caribbean region over this weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to remain over the Central Atlantic Ocean, well

east of the Lesser Antilles during the next five days.

 At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 21.4 North, longitude 44.8 West. Lorenzo is moving toward the north-northwest near 10mph or 17 km/h. A turn toward the north is expected today, followed by a turn toward the north-northeast on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are now near 115 mph or 185 km/h with higher gusts. Lorenzo is now a category 3 hurricane.  Gradual weakening is expected during the next few days but Lorenzo is expected to remain a powerful hurricane throughout the weekend.

...HURRICANE LORENZO WEAKENS A LITTLE BUT REMAINS VERY LARGE...

At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude
20.3 North, longitude 43.6 West. Lorenzo is moving toward the north-
northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h, and this general motion is forecast to 
continue tonight.  A turn toward the north is expected on Saturday, 
followed by a turn toward the north-northeast on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are now near 125 mph or 205 km/h with higher 
gusts.  Lorenzo is now a category 3 hurricane.  Gradual weakening is 
expected during the next few days but Lorenzo will remain a large and
powerful hurricane throughout the weekend.

Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 14 mph or 22 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph or 75 km/h.  Karen is expected to weaken by the weekend, and Karen to become a remnant low by Sunday.

Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Lorenzo is forecast to turn toward the northwest later today and this motion is expected to continue through Friday. A turn toward the north is expected Friday night and Saturday.

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 25.5 north, longitude 63.5 west or about 520 miles or 835 kilometres north-northeast of San Juan Puerto Rico. Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 15 mph or 24 km/h.  

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days. Karen is expected to remain over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during the next few days.

...LORENZO TO TURN NORTHWESTWARD AND STRENGTHEN TODAY...

At 5:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 15.1 north, longitude 39.3 west. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph or 24 km/h. Lorenzo is forecast to turn toward the northwest and begin moving at a slightly slower speed later today. A turn toward the north is then

anticipated on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph or 155 km/h, with higher gusts. Steady strengthening is forecast and Lorenzo is forecast to become a major hurricane later today or early on Friday.

Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Karen was located near latitude 22.9 north, longitude 64.3 west or about 330 miles or 535 kilometers north-northeast of San Juan Puerto Rico. Karen is moving toward the north-northeast near 14 mph or 22 km/h.  

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days. Karen is expected to remain over the northwest Atlantic Ocean during the next few days.

…LORENZO CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Hurricane Lorenzo was located near latitude 14.5 north, longitude 36.9 west. Lorenzo is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph or 30 km/h, and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.  A turn toward the northwest is expected by Thursday night.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph or 150 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Lorenzo is expected to become a major hurricane on Thursday. This system is expected to remain over the central Atlantic Ocean during the next five days.
