FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES
Partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy with a few scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms over the southern Windward Islands and areas further south. Elsewhere, fair to partly cloudy and hazy with a few brief showers.
Saharan dust haze will continue to cause a reduction to air quality and visibility across the Eastern Caribbean region during the forecast period.
Relatively light winds coupled with daytime heating may cause some afternoon thundershowers.
At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Larry was located near latitude 19.5 degrees north, longitude 49.7 degrees west or about 880 miles or 1415 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph or 205 km/h, with higher gusts. Larry is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Although Hurricane Larry does not pose a direct threat to our region, above normal sea swells generated by this system are expected to reach the Lesser Antilles later today.
Two tropical waves located over the central and far eastern Tropical Atlantic are moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.
