At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Sebastien was located near latitude 23.5 North, longitude 60.5 West, or about 405 miles or 650 kilometres north northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Sebastien is moving toward

the north-northeast near 8 mph or 13 km/h. A faster northeastward motion is expected during the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph

or 95 km/h with higher gusts. Sebastien could become a hurricane by tonight but a weakening trend is expected to begin by late Friday. The system is likely to become an extratropical cyclone by Saturday.  

Sebastien is forecast to remain over the open Atlantic Ocean and is not expected to pose a direct threat to our region.

A turn to the north is expected on Wednesday followed by a turn to the northeast and an increase in forward speed Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h with higher gusts. Some slight strengthening is possible over the next day or so.
