TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Low level moisture and instability together with an upper-level trough will produce some cloudy periods with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over some of the islands during the next 24 hours.

…… Tropical Storm Paulette …..

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Paulette was located near latitude 18.4 degrees north, longitude 43.3 degrees west or about 1295 miles or 2090 kilometers east of the Northern Leeward Islands. Paulette is moving toward the northwest near 6 mph or 9 km/h. A turn toward the west-northwest or west with a slight increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph or 100 km/h, with higher gusts. Further strengthening is forecast today and Paulette could become a hurricane by tonight. Gradual weakening is expected by late Wednesday.

…… Tropical Storm Rene …..

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Rene was located near latitude 16.5 degrees north and longitude 26.5 degrees west. Rene is moving toward the west near 16 mph or 26 km/h and a motion toward the west to west-northwest is expected over the next few days. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.  Little change in strength is expected today, followed by gradual strengthening on Thursday and Friday. Rene is forecast to become a hurricane in a couple of days.

On their current trajectories, both systems are forecast to remain away from the Lesser Antilles. The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor the progress of these system.
