TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability over the Eastern Caribbean region will cause a few scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

…… Tropical Storm Paulette ……

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Paulette was located near latitude 24.6 degrees north, longitude 53.7 degrees west or about 750 miles or 1205 kilometers northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Paulette is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph or 20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph or 100 km/h with higher gusts.

…… Tropical Storm Rene……

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Storm Rene was located over the central tropical Atlantic near latitude 20.7 degrees north and longitude 41.1 degrees west. Rene is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 75 km/h.

…… Tropical Depression Nineteen……

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression Nineteen was located over the northern Bahamas near latitude 25.4 degrees north and longitude 79.0 degrees west. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h.

None of these three systems are expected to pose a direct threat to the Lesser Antilles.

A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. A tropical depression is expected to form within the next two days. There is also a high chance of this system developing into a tropical storm within the next five days.

Another area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave has just moved off the west coast of Africa.  Environmental conditions appear conducive for development during the next few days, and a tropical depression could form over the far eastern tropical Atlantic early next week while the system moves slowly westward.

The Saint Lucia Meteorological Services will continue to closely monitor and provide updates on the progress of these systems.
