FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, over the southern and central Lesser Antilles. Elsewhere, fair skies with a few showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

The Inter-Tropical Convergent Zone (ITCZ) will cause scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly over the central and southern portions of the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.

…Tropical Depression Twenty forecast to strengthen…

At 5:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression Twenty was located near latitude

12.7 degrees north, longitude 37.6 degrees west or about 1600 miles or 2570 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph or 19 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next two days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h, with higher gusts. The system is forecast to become a tropical storm later tonight and could strengthen to a hurricane on Tuesday.

A low pressure system, associated with a tropical wave is located over the far Eastern Atlantic. This system is moving west northwest at about 12 mph or 19 km/h. Environmental conditions appear conducive for development during the next few days and a tropical depression could form next week, while the system moves slowly north northwestward. 

Another tropical wave just coming off the African coast, is moving westward at about 12 mph or 19 km/h.
