TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability in the lower atmosphere over our region will cause a few showers to develop over some of the islands during the next 24 hours.

...Tropical Depression Twenty strengthens into Tropical Storm Teddy...

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Teddy was located near latitude 13.4 degrees north, longitude 40.4 degrees west or about 1405 miles or 2260 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles. Teddy is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue for the next two days followed by a turn to the northwest by mid-week. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected, and Teddy is forecast to become a hurricane in a couple of days.

A low pressure system located over the far Eastern Tropical Atlantic, has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next day or so as it moves north-northwestward near 8 mph or 13 km/h. This system is forecast to become a short-lived Tropical Depression as it is expected to encounter unfavorable environmental conditions by Tuesday. 

A tropical wave just coming off the African coast, is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h.
