TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms associated with Tropical Storm Earl, will continue to affect the northern Leeward Islands during the next 24 hours. Moisture and instability trailing this system, will continue to cause occasional cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of our region during the forecast period.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Earl was located near latitude 19.5 degrees north, longitude 64.4 degrees west or about 85 miles or 140 kilometres north of the northern Leeward Islands. Earl is moving toward the northwest near 3 mph or 6 km/h. On the forecast track, Earl is expected to move slowly northward and away from the region. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts and Earl could become a hurricane in a couple of days.

A tropical wave associated with an area of low pressure, is located over the central Tropical Atlantic. This system is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h.

Another tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic, is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. An area of low pressure could form along this wave later this week, and some gradual development is possible as this system moves generally west-northwestward over the eastern to central tropical Atlantic during the next five days.
