TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Moist and unstable conditions will continue across the the Lesser Antilles, during the forecast period.
At 5:00 pm today, the centre of Tropical Storm Ian was located near latitude 16.2 north, longitude 80.3 west, or about 495 miles or 795 kilometres southeast of the Western tip of Cuba. Ian is moving toward the west-northwest at 12 mph or 19 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast tonight, followed by more rapid strengthening on Monday and Tuesday. Ian is forecast to become a hurricane on Monday and a major hurricane on Tuesday. Hurricane warnings are in effect for Grand Cayman and western Cuba.
A broad area of low pressure located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving slowly northward. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next five days.
