FORECAST FOR THE LESSER ANTILLES

Partly cloudy skies, becoming cloudy at times with a few scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms, over the northern Leeward Islands. Further south, fair to partly cloudy skies, with a few light showers.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Light southeasterly winds will continue across the Lesser Antilles over the next few days.

Moisture and instability associated with Hurricane Lee, will continue to cause occasional cloudy periods with scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms over the northern Leeward Islands, during the next 24 hours. Swells generated by this system, will cause hazardous sea conditions around these islands during the next few days.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Hurricane Lee was located near latitude 23.5 North, longitude 63.5 West or about 365 miles or 590 kilometres north of the northern Leeward Islands. Lee is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph or 13 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph or 195 km/h, with higher gusts. On the forecast track, Lee is expected to pass well north of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico during the next day or two.

Interests in these areas should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

A tropical wave located over the eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 12 mph or 19 km/h. This system has a low chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven (7) days.

Another tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 6 mph or 9 km/h. This system has a medium chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next seven (7) days.
