TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A trough system will continue to cause cloudiness, showers and isolated thunder-storms over the northern to central portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next 24 hours.

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 17.5 degrees north, longitude 53.7 degrees west or 620 miles or 995 kilometres east of the northern Leeward Islands. Philippe is moving toward the west near 9 mph or 15 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system.

A strong tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 17 mph or 28 km/h. This wave has a high chance of tropical cyclone formation during the next 48 hours.
