TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Light and variable winds will continue across the Lesser Antilles over the next few days.

At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 18.6 degrees North, longitude 54.6 degrees West, about 560 miles or 895 kilometers east of the northern Leeward Islands. Philippe is moving toward the west-northwest near 2 mph or 4 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Interests in the Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

The strong tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic has been upgraded to a tropical storm. At 11:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Rina was located near latitude 17.4 degrees North, longitude 45.0 degrees West. Rina is moving toward the north-northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. This system does not pose a threat to our region at this time.

A tropical wave located over the far eastern tropical Atlantic is drifting slowly westward.
