TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Philippe will cause some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the region during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Philippe was located near latitude 16.4 degrees North, longitude 58.2 degrees West or about 210 miles or 340 kilometers east of Guadeloupe. Philippe is moving toward the west near 7 mph or 11 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph or 85 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible by late Monday as Philippe begins to move north of the Leeward Islands.  Interests in the Leeward Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Rina was located near latitude 24.3 degrees North, longitude 53.7 degrees West. Rina is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph or 22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph or 65 km/h, with higher gusts. This system is expected to weaken and does not pose a threat to our region.

A tropical wave located over the central Tropical Atlantic is moving westward near 15 mph or 24 km/h.
