TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Unstable conditions associated with Tropical Storm Ernesto, will continue to affect the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles, mainly during the first half of the forecast period. A relatively drier and more stable atmosphere will prevail over the remainder of the region.
At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Ernesto was located near latitude 19.5 North, longitude 66.6 West or 85 miles or 135 km north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ernesto is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph or 26 km/h. A turn towards the north-northwest and north with a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected tonight and Thursday. Maximum sustained wind speed is near 70 mph or 110 km/h, with higher gusts. Ernesto is expected to become a hurricane by later this morning and could be a major hurricane in a couple of days. The center of Ernesto should pass north of Puerto Rico through today then move over the Western Atlantic later in the week.
