TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK

A light wind regime is expected across the Lesser Antilles, for the next few days. Weak unstable conditions and strong daytime heating may result in a few showers and isolated thunderstorms over the islands, during the forecast period.

At 5:00 am today, the center of Hurricane Kirk was located near latitude 22.3 north, longitude 48.1 west. Kirk is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph or 17 km/h and is expected to continue this general motion today. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 145 mph or 230 km/h, with higher gusts. Weakening is forecast to begin tomorrow and continue through early next week. Swells generated by Kirk are expected to reach portions of the Leeward Islands today.

…LESLIE IS A LITTLE STRONGER…

At 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Leslie was located near latitude 9.8 north, longitude 32.5 west. Leslie is moving toward the west near 6 mph or 9 km/h. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph or 95 km/h, with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast, and Leslie is forecast to become a hurricane by Saturday. Leslie does not pose a threat to our region at this time.
