A tropical wave will cause occasional cloudiness, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Lesser Antilles during the forecast period.

…HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT FINDS THAT THE DEPRESSION HAS STRENGTHENED TO TROPICAL STORM LAURA…

At 11:00 am today, the centre of Tropical Storm Laura was located near latitude 17.0 North, longitude 60.2 West or about 210 miles or 335 kilometres east southeast of the northern Leeward Islands. Laura is moving toward the west near 18 mph or 30 km/h and a generally west-northwestward motion at a faster forward speed is expected over the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the centre of Laura will move near or over the northern Leeward Islands later today, near or over Puerto Rico Saturday morning, and near the northern coast of Hispaniola late Saturday and early Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph or 75 km/h with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical Storm watches and warnings have been issued for most of the Leeward Islands.

Laura does not pose a direct threat to Saint Lucia and the rest of the Windward Islands, however, this system will produce scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over these areas during the next 36 hours.

A tropical wave located over the far eastern Tropical Atlantic is moving westward at 12 mph or 19 km/h. This wave has a medium chance of further development during the next five days.
